The Bluest Eye
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a heartbreaking novel.

While I will never know what it’s like to be black (as I am very very white), it gives me a little bit of perspective outside my own experiences.

It’s heartbreaking to read about how being white is this huge standard of beauty that people were (and still are) willing to give up everything to at least pretend to be so that they can try to be treated as human instead of as a piece of property.

This is an amazingly written book. As a warning though, there is talk of abuse, rape, a brief mention of lynching, and death (of an animal) in this book. If those are things you don’t want to read about, DO NOT read this book.
