Clever Maids: The Secret History Of The Grimm Fairy Tales
Clever Maids: The Secret History Of The Grimm Fairy Tales by Valerie Paradiz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an interesting book on the behind the scenes of how the Grimm brothers started their fairy tale collection.

It also gives me more to not like about the Grimm brothers.

I like that it was comprehensive, straight down to including sources to do further research if you’re so inclined, but also easy to understand and not too scholarly (it would have taken 2-3 times longer to read had it been).

I would have liked it even if it was overly scholarly but that’s because I’m one of those oddballs that even though I don’t have a profession into literature/history/medical/etc I like reading the papers and journals for knowledge because it’s enjoyable to me.

Overall if you want insight into the background and what sparked the Grimm brothers to collect fairy tales, this is an excellent book.
