Servants of the Living Forest
Servants of the Living Forest by Brandon L. Summers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Content warnings: sex, lesbian relationship, mentions of blood, attempts at harm

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.

I REALLY WANTED to like this book. Like it started out interesting enough. But the hiking into the forest part and chasing after the dog. That’s where it started to seriously lose me.

The idea of a living forest is great. It really is. I’m just not sure that it was executed as well as it could have been.

Like what happens when they stop for gas and are covered in blood as well as the van covered in blood? Do people freak out? Do they look at them funny? And then the ending? It just…it didn’t really do it for me.

I liked the idea of an interracial romance and neither girl being caricature of their race/ethnicity. That was decently done. The rest though? Kind of “meh”.

It was decent enough though that if you think it sounds interesting go ahead and read it. Otherwise? Don’t waste your time.
