Bear Run: A Bear Shifter Paranormal Romance
Bear Run: A Bear Shifter Paranormal Romance by Belinda Meyers

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Content warnings: bigotry, violence, wh*re used as a slur, gun violence, sex, nudity mention, internalized slut shaming, heterosexual relationships

I received a free ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was hesitant going into this book. 1) author I’m not familiar with, 2) the issue of bigotry, 3) wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it as much as I tend to with shifter romance stories. However, all of that was unfounded and unnecessary worries.

I really liked how Alice came to deal with her father and brother (both of whom I’d like to smack upon the head….HARD).  And how she came to her own understandings and conclusions on her own. And how she recognized that she didn’t ascribe to the bigotry her family did and that it was wrong. I’ll give her this, she had a lot of nerves to be able to go up against *EVERYTHING* she was told/taught and not fall into the trap of “my family believes x so I have no choice but to believe x”. It takes a LOT of nerves and courage to be able to do so and to continue resisting them every time confronted with them even if only in her head.

Taggart also had to overcome his nerves and gather them and his courage to break free of the shifters he wound up joining up with. I mean, gender wise, it takes a bit less for men to do so than women (thanks to social conditioning and all that) but it’s still applaudable in ALL genders.

This was a pretty good and enjoyable book. If you like shifter romances you will probably like this one.
